Flickering lights send Ki-woo a Morse code message revealing his father now secretly lives in the hidden bunker. From a distant mountain, Ki-woo spies on the house. He and his mother are given probation for their crimes while Ki-taek’s whereabouts remain unknown.Ī German family moves into the former Park home. One month later, Ki-woo comes out of a coma after recovering from brain surgery. Seeing Dong-ik hold his nose at Ki-taek’s smell causes Ki-taek to kill Dong-ik in a fit of rage.

Chung-sook kills Geun-se with a meat skewer in the ensuing panic. Geun-se captures Ki-woo and repeatedly smashes his head with the rock.ĭriven mad by his wife’s death, Geun-se goes into the backyard and fatally stabs Ki-jung in front of the partygoers. While everyone else participates in the backyard party, Ki-woo sneaks into the basement with the scholar’s stone. In addition to her wealthy friends, Yeon-kyo invites each of the Kims to attend.

The next day, Yeon-kyo throws an impromptu birthday party for Da-song. Ki-woo brings the scholar’s rock with him. Ki-taek and his children are forced to sleep in a gym shelter that evening. When they return home however, they discover their semi-basement flooded with sewage from the storm. Ki-taek, Ki-woo, and Ki-jung eventually escape the house. While hiding, Ki-taek overhears Dong-ik and Yeon-kyo disparagingly discussing his unpleasant odor. Yeon-kyo mentions to Chung-sook that Da-song became eccentric after a childhood encounter with a ghost, who was actually Geun-se coming upstairs. Ki-woo and Ki-jung help hastily clean up and then hide with their father when the Parks return home. Chung-sook violently kicks Moon-gwang down the basement steps, giving the former housekeeper a concussion that ultimately kills her. Ki-taek ties up Geun-se in the bunker where he learns Geun-se became unusually obsessed with Dong-ik and uses flickering lights to send Morse code messages to Da-song. Yeon-kyo phones Chung-sook to say her family is coming home early due to rain. Piecing together the plot that led to her losing her job, Moon-gwang records a cellphone video of the Kims and threatens to send it to Yeon-kyo. Chung-sook discovers Moon-gwang’s husband Geun-se has secretly lived inside the hidden bunker for four years to escape his creditors.Ĭhung-sook threatens to call the police on the other couple when Ki-taek, Ki-woo, and Ki-jung accidentally reveal themselves.

Chung-sook ends up helping Moon-gwang move a basement bookcase that reveals a hidden bunker, which the Parks do not know about. Moon-gwang unexpectedly appears at the front door claiming she needs to retrieve something she left behind. Ki-taek, Chung-sook, Ki-woo, and Ki-jung take advantage of the vacant house by gluttonously indulging in the other family’s food and fine liquors. After Moon-gwang is dismissed from her duties, Chung-sook becomes the new housekeeper.ĭong-ik, Yeon-kyo, Da-hye, and Da-song go camping for Da-song’s birthday. Ki-taek poses as an experienced chauffer and gets hired as Dong-ik’s new driver.īy exploiting the woman’s peach allergy, the Kim family pulls off an elaborate plot to make it look as though the Park family’s housekeeper Moon-gwang suffers from contagious tuberculosis. Led to believe Yoon was having sex in his car, Dong-ik fires Yoon.

Ki-jung plants her panties in the car driven by Dong-ik’s driver Yoon. Seeing another exploitation opportunity, Ki-jung impersonates an elite art therapist and gets a job teaching Da-song. Ki-woo learns Yeon-kyo believes her precocious son Da-song could be a gifted art genius. Ki-woo and Da-hye gradually develop a romantic attraction to each other. Ki-jung helps Ki-woo forge college credentials to get the job. Ki-woo’s friend Min gifts the family with a scholar’s stone that is said to bring wealth in hopes of turning around the unemployed family’s misfortunes.īecause he is leaving to study abroad, Min convinces Ki-woo to take over for him as an English tutor to Da-hye, the teenage daughter of wealthy tech entrepreneur Dong-ik Park and his neurotic wife Yeon-kyo. Ki-taek Kim, his wife Chung-sook, their son Ki-woo, and their daughter Ki-jung live in poverty in a semi-basement.
